Poetry Lesson Plan

Explore the world of poetry through the works of Eugene Field. Although Field was a journalist during his lifetime, he became very well known for poems, Wynken, Blynken, and Nod and The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat. In fact, Eugene Field became known as the “Children’s Poet” for his many beloved rhymes. Young children will enjoy this fun lesson and bonus activities. Activity
Read and discuss Eugene’s poem The Sugar-Plum Tree, answer the questions, and then create your own version of the poem. Bonus activities include two word searches, two ad libs, a word scramble, and instructions on how to make your own sugar-plum treats!
